HAB Research Assistant

The Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, the research arm of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, invites applications for an OPS Research Assistant position in the Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) group. The position is located in St. Petersburg, FL and is a full-time, hourly position starting at $16-$18/hr, depending on experience. This is a time-limited position; continued employment is anticipated but contingent upon annual state appropriations.

The successful applicant will conduct analyses for the detection of marine algal toxins in seafood, seawater, and other environmental matrices using ELISA, HPLC, and LC-MS techniques; evaluate new methods and technologies for regulatory shellfish testing; and participate in collaborative HAB research. Primary duties will focus on conducting analyses for Paralytic Shellfish Toxins using HPLC-FL and providing analytical support for the state’s shellfish biotoxin program. Professional experience in a chemical or biological laboratory setting is required. Experience with HPLC or LC-MS techniques is strongly preferred.
