Hi Im new here and I need help deciding the best solvents for my tlc chromatography exp. I know that the polarity of the solvent and solute affect it but Im just unsure about which solvents to choose. I have a choice of three solvents. Hexane, acetone, and methylene chloride. I have three mixtures and each one uses one of the solvents I just mentioned. THe first mixture is 2-phenylethanol and acetophenone. The second mixture is 4-bromobenzene and p-xylene. The last mixture is benzoic acid, 2, 4-dinitrobenzoic acid, and 2,4,6-trinitrobenzoic acid. Im predicting methylene chloride for the first mixture, hexane for the second and acetone for the third. I tried to base my answers off the polarity of the mixtures. Can anyone tell me if I am on the right track
