I am working with the LCQ Deca XP Plus/Ultimate Plus/Famos since 1 month. I need to set up the instrument and develop few analytical methods for the company I worked with. The instrument was bought second-hand 4 years ago, there is no services nor maintenance contract for it. I am pretty much on my own and need to discuss to people who has already work with these instruments and the Xcalibur software.

To create an instrument method, I need a tune method. Can I do a tune method with more than one compound (3 in my case)? I think I can using the MSn mode in Define scan button (Tune plus). Can you confirmed this please?

Does it means that I have to do a MS/MS experiment for each compound (to find the parent mass) and then joined the parent masses in one tune method?

Another question is about the start up/shut down method (intrument methods) that we can use before and after running a sequence. It is suggested (in the manual) that these methods can be use for example for tuning or calibration. My question is how can I create a tune/calibration method from Xcalibur as the method one required a steady infusion of the tuning/calibration solution using a syringue into the MS?

Thank you for any help you can bring me.

Hello to all

For the Xcalibur software, when to use LC Quan vs Quan Browser?

Many thanks
