Varian 430 display module

I suspect I'm being overly optimistic but...

The display unit ("LUI") on our Varian 430 GC is on the blink again. It was replaced less than a year ago (alas only 90 days' warranty on repairs from Agilent) and is displaying gibberish again. The instrument works fine (on Galaxie) you just can't make sense of what is on the display. Other than spin another £400 for a new one, or ignore it, is there anything else I can do?

Once long ago a similar problem with a GC was traced to heat affecting the integrity of the display panel. The only solution was replacement. Of course, we carefully looked into the source of the overheating.

You might try removing the panel, then reconnecting it to the electronics unmounted and see if that affects the display.

best wishes,

Rod

The Varian 430 GC is a Bruker product, Agilent buy the parts from us. I doubt our response regarding the part fitted by Agilent will be any different but if you were my customer and had bought from me I would be working to make sure that something was done. Bruker UK for service are on 02476-855200 and our authorised re-seller and support company are PreSearch 01256 365492

Thanks guys, will try Rod's suggestion. The instrument is about 4-5 years old so I'm not expecting a recurrent problem. I think for the replacement I had gone to Varian UK and they put me on to Agilent (as it was post-takeover) so I thought nothing of it.

It might be worth looking at reloading and/or updating the GC firmware that drives the screen.
