adding NPD to GC-HS??

We have a GC-HS from PE for blood alcohol analysis.
The GC is Clarus 500
FID detector
Turbomatrix Hs-40 sampler
Rtx-BAC1 column
we planing to add NPD detector for blood cyanide and carbon monoxide analysis. this requires to add another column.
is it possible to have two columns with one injector?

The simple answer is yes, but real life is more complicated and you will have to think carefully about how to connect them, whether they can run at the same temperature becuase they are in the same oven, and how to control the gas flows through each.

You can split injection to two columns on the front, if they are the same dimensions, with a relatively easy install of a Y splitter. The push on splitters work okay and the caged Y splitters (from Restek for example) work even better. I use a megabore from the inlet to the Y and then the two columns hooked to each leg of the Y. Once you get away from equal dimension columns you are asking for trouble because the split will not be close to equal. So, for example, if you are thinking about a PLOT for the CN and CO with the BAC-1 you are going to have some significant issues with unequal splits between the two columns.
You can also split on the back end to two detectors which is more straightforward but I think this does not apply here.
Also, just curious, how are you planning on doing the CO with this configuration?

Is there any way to avoide this disadvatage of Y splitter?
For CO I think it will be around 10 to 20 sample per year.
