Please can anyone give me some pointers on the use of inorganic mass spectrometry. Like what types of analysis, ionisation techniques. I wonder if anyone has read any basic texts on this that could recommend. I've a little about seciation analysis but am feeling rather lost. Has anyone any experience of these techniques they could share?

ICP-MS is usually used for metal analysis. You need to have a HPLC, IC or other chromatographic tools before ICP-MS for speciation analysis.

thanks for replies,
I'll try to order the book from the library and see if i can make sense of it.

ICP-MS is best suited for Inorganic MS analysis. Better you do Ion Chromatography before analysis

Another viable alternative would be to use HILIC coupled with ICP-MS.
Recently there has been papers published on this new combination of analytical techniques.
