Hi all:
I have a API2000 in the lab. Recently during the backing pump oil change it was pwered down. After the oil change it was powered up but now I hear a whining sound from the turbo inside.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance.

Are you able to still achieve the operational vaccum? When turbos start to be loud it means that they are close to their lifetime. Nothing you can do about it other than wait until it dies completely and change it or if you are under the vaccum specs change (or repair if an option like this is available) it. It might take a while until the turbo dies completely...

How did you exactly go about the oil change?
Did you power the mass spec down first, allowing the backing pump to run for a short while before turning it off?
Or did you just shut the whole thing down?

It looks you have not shut down your MS system during oil change and thats the reason you are getting this problem.
As kostas suggested you have to wait until your vacuum pump goes completely and then better you can replace with new
