Dear all:
I searched for market share of HPLC mfgs, but I could not find any current info. For example, here is a link to 1998 data:

Could somebody point to a current, reliable source? I am curious about the market share of Waters, Agilent, Shimadzu and Dionex.

If/when you find this information, be very aware of the role software and validated computer systems plays in it. If this sort of thing is included, it may well make a difference in where Waters stands as their IS stuff is grabbing lots more market share than Agilent's (no source for this, other than what I hear in the field).

If there are no free market research reports available to you, start with the annual reports of each of the top players...

Hi,
The information I get from the vendors are that Agilent and Waters consider themselves to be LC system market leaders. Dionex seems to be number three and Shimadzu number four.

the inforamtion posted is off all life science instruments.
GC, HPLC, MS, CE and all related products, the overall results is revenue, so it does not reflects market share in proportion.
and it will be different depending on what you want to see, HPLC, with or without the software sales?

The info is available, but it is not cheap. All the major instrument manufacturers report sales to industry groups which compile the data into reports and sell it. These are usually reports of revenue, not unit sales. This can be a little misleading, as a company that sells a moderate amount of high end instruments may have as much revenue as a company that sells substantially more units at a lower cost per unit. Unit sales data are also available, I haven't seen LC data for the last couple of years, but usually Agilent and Waters are the leaders.

There is also a difference in US sales ranking and worldwide sales ranking when you go lower than Waters and Agilent.
